Active flight

This is the approved revision of this page, as well as being the most recent.

An active flight is the one flight you have open at any time, from the moment you pick an aircraft on New Flight until you save it in the Pilops Client or cancel it. This page covers what Pilops shows about it, on the website and in the client, while it runs.

On the website

The Active Flight page is the four-step checklist described in Planning a flight. It has no separate in-flight screen: once the client has started the flight, the page simply shows the plan with the load locked.

Your flight appears on the Dashboard like everyone else's, on the live map and in the Live Tracker list, with its state, route, progress, flight time, altitude and airspeed. That is the place to watch a flight from a second screen or a phone.

Flight states

The client reads the simulator and moves the flight through four states:

State When
Boarding Connected, aircraft parked and not moving.
Taxing The aircraft starts moving on the ground.
In Flight The wheels leave the ground.
Landed The wheels touch the ground again. The landing is scored at this moment.

The states only move forward, so the first touchdown is the one that is scored.

In the client

While tracking, the client shows the current state, Altitude, Airspeed and Used fuel, plus two gauges for the load: Passengers happiness and Cargo condition. Below them is the alerts list, "Problems that can impact your flight evaluation and your reputation as a pilot." It starts with "You don't have any alerts so far." and fills up if the flight gets rough. See Landing score.

Two buttons close the flight:

  • Finish and save flight — only when the aircraft is fully stopped; otherwise you see "Your aircraft must be stopped to finish your flight."
  • Cancel flight — asks "Are you sure you want to cancel this flight?" and ends the flight with nothing paid.

Where the flight ends

Pilops does not ask where you meant to go. When you save, it finds the airport closest to where the aircraft is stopped and treats that as the destination. Jobs bound there are delivered; the rest are unloaded at that airport for a later flight. See Cargo and passengers. Stopping at the airport you departed from is refused.

Keeping the flight alive

The client sends a position report about once a minute. An active flight that stops reporting for 24 hours is cancelled automatically. See Flight cancellation.
